    Useful Certifications after college?

I have been considering gaining my Permit Technician Certification from ICC or even a project management certification from PMI to increase my hire-ability.

My Background: 6 months (2 distinct projects) with a public development authority and 9 months(paid) of other sudo-relevant internships. I have a bachelors in Planning and Policy from a non-planning accredited school, Western Washington University.

I would be glad to be a Permit Technician for my first job but want to be a Planner 1 in the not-so-distant future.

    Questions:
Would either of of the aforementioned certifications give me (or any post grad) a significant advantage as a Permit Tech or Planner 1 applicant?

I considered asking my local permitting department if I could work volunteer while I study for the exam and borrow their books. Would a planning department be interested?

Is there something else I should be focusing my attention on?

Would you give me feed back on my resume?
