    LIDAR applications in Urban Planning?

I currently work at a lidar aquisition and processing firm but my background is in urban planning..

I'm trying to brain storm ways that LIDAR data could be useful to planners beyond just creating models and running solar suitability analysis?

some ideas i've been thinking about.. the data could be used to determine if three dimensional built environment factors have any effect on demographics? just throwing ideas out there.. but yeah if anyone care to brainstorm w me, I'd appreciate it.

    info on lidar: http://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/lidar.html

    thanks!

Would the LIDAR data be a cloud of undefined point data? That would be my concern, that there is so much data and much of it undefined.

I have lidar topography of my whole county. We use it for floodplain mapping, planning terraces for farming, bridge work, road work, and any preliminary survey work you can think of. It's extensively used in the floodplain mapping.
I don't pretend to understand Brannigan's Law. I merely enforce it.
