California Coastal Commission votes 7-5 to dismiss Charles Lester

The place hasn't been the same since Peter Douglas left. When I was out there, some damn good people worked in that organization.

EDIT: Opps. I should have started a new thread...

Re: Your Earlier thread: Surfers lose fight to access Half Moon Bay beach

When you started this thread, were you aware that Vinod "Jerk of Halfmoon Bay" Khosla is an ally of Charles Lester?
In a Feb. 9 letter to Steve Kinsey, chairman of the commission, Khosla praised Lester as a worthy adversary and warned that dismissing him "would be bad for California" and inconsistent with the commission's mission of protecting the coast.

If you did not know that Khosla supports Lester, once you found out, did your opinion on the CCC's decision change at all?

It probably doesn't surprise anybody that Charles Lester is suing:

A pair of San Diego lawyers Tuesday sued the California Coastal Commission in an effort to get the agency to release documents related to the recent firing of its executive director.
    . . .

While some reports indicated that the commissioners were dissatisfied with Lester's management and leadership, environmental advocates contended that he was removed from power to make the agency more accommodating to developers.

According to a complaint filed in San Diego Superior Court, the commission has refused subsequent requests for documents related to the firing under the state Public Records Act. Among other things, the commission contends that individual commissioners are exempt from PRA requests.

    . . .

[Lawyer Todd] Cardiff and lawyer Bryan Pease filed the lawsuit on behalf of an organization called the Grassroots Coalition. Pease is a candidate for San Diego city attorney.
RJ, what's the probability that Khosla is a major (ghost) financial backer of this particular "Grassroots Coalition", and also of lawyer Bryan Pease's S.D. city attorney election campaign?

Sweetheart, I left California in January of 2002. Circumstances have changed. Notwithstanding, I still keep an eye on the events in my home state. Raf can give a much more current perspective of California coastal issues.

    Stay in touch.

I was going to ask if, despite your having left California, you had an opinion anyway.

Then I read about your "week from hell".

    OK, I'll ask another time.
