    Depeche Mode appreciation thread

Great 80s band. Speak and Spell is a hell of a debut. This is where popular new electro-wave bands like Chvrches and Cold Cave get it from. Very good accompagné music to the practice of planning. Remember arcologies in Sim City 2000? Like that in musical form!!

Who here listened to the 'Mode in the 1980s?!

I bet Maister, Super Amputee Cat, JNA and maaaaaybe LP did, guessing RJ, Veloise and Otis didn't.

How great is 80s synthesizer pop in general? Like the Beverly Hills Cop music! *insert sunglass emoji here*

I remember them from the '80s. I gained more of an appreciation for them as I got older.
When did I go from Luke Skywalker to Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Funny, I was going to say the same thing.
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

I think they were too cutting edge back then. The also got lumped in with other New Wave bands. Unlike other bands, Thompson Twins, et al, their music has stood up to the test of time. That being said, I still like Sun Glasses at Night by Corey Hart.

Music for the Masses was a great makeout album. Well, at least that's what I've been told. I was too busy doing homework of course

They're still touring. I'll be working their show the first week of September.

I saw them the last time they were on tour in 2009 and they were awesome. They are quite possibly one of my favorite groups.

Kraftwerk are one of my favs. I love the Radio Activity album (1975) in particular.

Yes I love Depeche Mode - brings me right back to parties in the 80's at Syracuse University!

In that genre, though, I prefer Echo & The Bunnymen
