I was so close to banning you. I determined that you just don't know anything, and I moved on.

THEY say that Christmas music can even harm one's mental health. No one wants that.
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

I used to feel the same way as Terminator regarding Christmas music but now I love it. I don't know if it's from having kids or something but nowadays, once the weather turns cool I don't mind listening to it and from about this point until just after the New Year I almost always have holiday music playing as background noise at home during the day and into the evening. There are some types that get on my nerves (super religousy country songs, some very kitsch 1960s songs, etc.) but for the most part, I enjoy it now. FWIW, I could listen to The Vince Guaraldi Trio's A Charlie Brown Christmas over and over again non-stop... all year long.

I'm okay with it after Thanksgiving. Just not Grandma Got Run Over.

It's just not the Christmas season until you hear Grandma Got Runned Over By A Reindeer and Merry Christmas From the Family.

As a remedy you may want to look into Squirrel Nut Zippers Christmas Caravan. I think it might best be described as music for people who have trouble getting through the holidays. Think of it as a cathartic downer to get the can't-stand-this-friggin-holiday-blues out of your system.

    Darn you Luckless, scooped again

In addition to the Pretenders, The Kinks, Dr Demento, and Bob Rivers songs mentioned above, you might want to burn these into an X-Mas CD, T.

    Smashing Pumpkins - Christmastime
Greg Lake - I believe in Father Christmas
Bob & Doug McKenzie - Twelve Days of Christmas
Weird All Yankovic - Christmas at Ground Zero
    Mavis Staples - Christmas Vacation

I was driving to the store with my daughter last night listening to the Christmas music station on satellite radio and Adam Sandler's Hanukkah Song came on. My daughter is 7 and has never heard the song but probably at least a third of the kids in her class are Jewish including her best friend Veronica. My daughter just thought the song was silly, she has no idea who Dinah Shore or Paul Newman or Arthur Fonzarelli or Rod Carew are, but at the end when Sandler sings, "Tell your friend Veronica, it's time to celebrate Hanukkah!" she thought that was the greatest thing in the world and decided it must be about her Veronica.

It's probably my favorite X-Mas song of time. The perfect hybrid road trip/X-Mas song. I hadn't heard it in years either (because all the local radio stations only play the shite songs) so I had a friend burn a CD for me with this and about eight other favorites. I only play it once a year, either X-Mas day or X-Mas eve. But I have to be on the open road.

Randy Brooks wrote Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer. I just found out that he’s my cousin Debbie’s cousin. Their uncle was Foster Brooks. That must have been a fun family.
