Don't get laid off anytime soon, and check out my little girl

    The competition is fierce!

Good news though, I've accepted a position with the VIllage of Hoffman Estates, IL a western suburb of Chicago. They actually met my salary requirements too! I start on Jan 20th so I'll hopefully be posting a quick message at that time from my new office.

My wife had a baby daughter on December 30, 2002. She was 8lb, 3oz. and 19.5 inches long.

    What a beautiful baby girl!!!

And congrats on your new job... I was wondering where you would end up. Is it close enough that you don't have to move?

Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO- HOO what a ride!'"

    Congrats.

With a 36 billion (or 21 billion, depending on who you listen (I trust neither side) state budget deficit-guess where some of the money is coming from? Local governments! The Hummer and Land Rovers drivers got a big tax break a few years ago (as did I), and now the State is taking back the backfill to local governments.

I hope I (or my colleagues) don't join your former status. I really would like to stay in California, but . . .

Oh, I forgot to say, "Thanks" for that!

It was even better when I was in real estate and deducted all that depreciation too!

Move? of course. I sold my house in November and have been living with my parents (my wife and kids included) since. Thank god they allowed me to move in with them for the time we needed it. Who knew in Peoria's housing market that my house would sell that fast and finding a job would be so hard.
Dude, I'm cheesing so hard right now.

Hoffman Estates and its neighbors have had some great annexation battles. You are never quite sure what city you are in, sometimes.

Sorry... I didn't know you had to sell your house. I remembered you were in Illinois, but I forgot what part. I hope you enjoy your new job and home though!

I'd say that you don't know where you are most of the time. Chicago's suburbs have incrediblly jig-sawed borders.
