Does anybody have some good songs (including classic rock) to play while they are planning, writing, creating, etc?

I'm not even going to list the titles of songs in my preferred music collection, or produce the usual long checklist of oft-quoted "planner's songs" ("Subdivisions" by Rush, "Southern California Wants to be Western New York" by Dar Williams, "We Built This City" by Journey," "My City was Gone" by the Pretenders, any Ani Difranco tune about the decline of Buffalo, etc.).

My background music includes hippie rock, acoustic/AAA rock (along the lines of the KBCO, KGSR or KFOG playlists), 1970s and 1980s rock and retro, 1990s alternative, punk, alternative country, blues, Celtic, and Spanish/Mexican guitar. I've got some extremely deep cuts -- songs that you probably heard on the radio years ago, only a few times, which aren't even heard when your local mullet rock station does a "Deep Cut Thurday" or whatever. Think "City's Burning" by Heart, "48 Crash" by Suzi Quatro, "La Bel Age" by Pat Benatar, and "Had a Dream" by Roger Hodgson. Deeeeeeeeeeep cuuuuuuts ...

The playlist includes, but is certainly not limited to, groups such as The Cowboy Junkies, The Eagles, Edie Brickell, Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, Pat Benatar, The Waitresses, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Ted Nugent, The Ramones, Dream Theater, Dave Matthews Band, The Go-Gos, Kiss, Liz Phair, Metallica, Patti Smith, Motels, Phish, REM, Laurie Anderson, Oleander, Radiohead, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Southern Culture on the Skids, Juliana Hatfield, and Fleetwood Mac. No rap, smooth jazz, recent top 40/dance, or pop country. It's a diverse playlist, and if I could think of a name for the format if it was translated into radio I'd probably call it "Eclectic Gen-X."

I'd like to have a Cyburbia audio stream, but I don't know what the audience would be like, or if it's worth sacrificing some bandwidth for 128kbps deeeeeeeeeep cuuuuuuuuts.

...I have an extensive collection of what my sister refers to as my lesbian music. I have to admit I love Melissa, the Indigo Girls, Sara Mc Laughlin, and most of those other soothing KD Lang-ish gravel throated women in flannel. While I enjoy Ted Nugent, his music and his outlook, I need more.

So remember, not all conservatives listen to Lawrence Welk and support the seperation of the races like the media would have you believe.

I'm also a fan of the Toten Hosen. I have a few years of german language classes, and enjoy german music occassionally. Not just the heavy/punk stuff...but stuff like Herbert Groenemayer as well.

When I was working in the planning mines of dreary Southwest Kansas no music would mentally relocate me further away from the grey sheen of big cattle than Gloria or Jimmy. Yes I would get strange looks from co-workers who listened to both kinds of music: Country AND Western.

My Father used to play that suff and I thought it stunk until just a few years ago. Then Napster happened upon us and I downloaded a bunch for him and I got hooked. You have to have a high tollerance for twang!

Great diversity of music. Love it!
My wife Chris likes some of the old-style swing and country---she's from a farm in Missouri.
And hey, with the Grammys won by the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou," many see a BIG upswing in bluegrass.
We'd been into it well before that ----saw a very good group called "The Chapmans" from southern Missouri, outdoors in a pouring July rainstorm. Catch them if you can----outstanding harmony and solid instrumentals.
Here in Alaska, you cannot beat a late-night, early morning Bluegrass festival in the summer months ----when the sun barely, if ever, goes down!! Ya HOOOOOO!
