What techniques and tools do you use to let the public know what is happeneing regarding both site-specific development applications and broader policy issues (e.g. ordinance amendments)?

For any special approvals (site specific) we send letters to all property owners within 100 feet (30 metres) telling them what has been applied for and how to appear before the decision making body.

For Plan Amendments, as per the law, 2 ads in the newspaper.
For Zoning Amendments, as per the law, 2 ads in the newspaper and we will help to faciliate a special meeting if the applicant desires a neighbourhood meeting prior to the formal hearing.

Our Act empowers us to have signs posted on the property and mailings done to adjacent property owners for Plan Amendments and Zoning Amendments, we just don't for fear of missing a person or the sign not being posted properly.
Too lazy to beat myself up for being to lazy to beat myself up for being too lazy to... well you get the point....

Ads before each public hearing, notices to all owners within 300 feet, and a notice posted on the property.

Ordinance amendments are advertised in the newspaper.

All of the above are also posted on our web site.
