    Punch Buggy vs. Slug Bug

Okay, here's another of those "which term do you use" questions.

You know that game when you see a VW Beetle and you hit the other people in the car? Well, do you use the term "SLUG BUG!" before you knuckle them in the arm or do you scream out "PUNCH BUGGY!" and then wail on them?

I grew up sith 'slug bug' but the kids up here do the punch buggy thing.

    No punch-backs!

    Punch Buggy!

The Sudbury version includes vehicles with exterior wood trim (beaver panelling) and INCO trucks.

I just call them bugs. I never heard of the punch buggy/arm punch routine until my son picked it up last year.

It's punch bug 'round these parts.

First one to holler "punch bug convertible" when one is spotted gets to dope slap the other, too!

Another game my sister and I played was Cadillac Wack. Like punch bug, only with Caddies. Any excuse to hit each other.

Does anyone else here also play Popeye?

Well, I still play too... more of a preventative measure from getting punched by one of the kids (somehow I'm not immune from the round of hits that come from this game).

I always did the punch buggy thing too. We also played a similar game that involved seeing cars with one headlight out. When you see that, you yell "kadiddle" and you get to slug the other person. The one with the most kadiddles at the end of the trip won.

    The Point System

Me and the kids play all the time, we use a point system based upon the rarity of sighting

1 points for a new standard bug
2 points for a new standard convertable bug
2 points for OLD standard bug
3 points for a new standard covertable bug if it is white with a blonde chick driving it
3 points for an OLD standard convertable bug
4 points for an OLD standard convertable bug if it is white with a blonde chick driving it

I was introduced to a different version of this with a girl I knew in college. On a road trip we took, she explained that the first person to spy the car got to kiss anyone else in the car they chose. Since it was only the two of us, it was a very enjoyable trip.

(OK, Dan, where is that animated "love" smilie?)

How 'bout the "pdidle" where one kisses one's hand and hits the cieling at the sight of a car w/ one headlight. This was a favorite w/ my high school mates, as we cruised on weekends. The pididles added up to haw many kisses you were going to get that night.

    It never worked

Girlfriend currently has rediscoverd her love of "punch buggy" making even the shortest drive a new competition.
She has been a bad girl, she is like a chemical, though you try and stop it she is like a narcotic.

Where I grew up it was called "perdiddle" and you hit the ceiling when you saw a vehicled with one headlight out. I find it interesting the regional differences in names. At some point in history, someone had to start this whole game, and as it spread, the name changed as well. Kind of like the game you played in kindergarten when you all lined up and the teacher told one student a word or phrase and you whispered it to the next etc. When it got to the end, it was different than what the teacher said. Someone, somewhere, invented the diddle game.

The kids say "punch buggy, no punch backs". Never heard of slug bug, but I'll have to hit them with that one. pun intended.

we played "beaver" (i.e. station wagon). You get major score if you see a "wood grained beaver"!!
