    Strangest. Assassination. Attempt. Ever.

Did anybody else read about that assassination attempt in Bulgaria or see the photos or video? Yes, it is indeed crazy (and so is the subsequent news that the shooter didn't have real ammunition), but I think the craziest part is that the assassin looked exactly how you would expect an Eastern European assassin to look based on 1980s spy movies. Dark hair, crew cut, leather blazer, black turtleneck... This guy had to be straight out of central casting!

Full video (don't worry, no death here, just a broken nose):

"Where free unions and collective bargaining are forbidden, freedom is lost." - 1980 Republican presidential candidate Ronald Reagan

That almost looks like some terrible publicity stunt but I have no idea for what purpose.

I have to agree it looks more like a Greenpeace-style publicity stunt than a real attempt
People will miss that it once meant something to be Southern or Midwestern. It doesn't mean much now, except for the climate. The question, “Where are you from?” doesn't lead to anything odd or interesting. They live somewhere near a Gap store, and what else do you need to know? - Garrison Keillor

AIUI it was real. Too bad there weren't 20 heroic CCW people there to protect the pol in a hail of bullets in a patriotic and heroic crossfire...

I love the old (well older) guy that jumps into the fray at the end with his cane.

    Nice.
I'm sorry. Is my bias showing?

Let's not be didactic in this profession, because that is a path to disillusion and irrelevancy.

Just keep kicking a man when he's down. If that doesn't work, smack him with a brief case or use the cane!
I don't pretend to understand Brannigan's Law. I merely enforce it.
