Administrative Professionals Week

Administrative Assistants; Executive Assistants; Administrative Professionals; Clerks; Secretaries, etc. - this week is dedicated to those who assist us in our daily work duties and such. What are you doing (if anything) for your assistant(s)?

Today, I will get to answer the phones while the boss takes our two assistants out for a + 2 hour lunch. Maybe I should also get them a plant or something.

I get to avoid any uncomfortable expectation of being identified as helping in my office by taking this week off. I hope the boss finds that it is difficult for one person to run the show be herself.

I've always been very nice to and respectful of administrative assistants, executive assistants, administrative professionals, clerks, secretaries, etc., simply because they are the backbone and foundation. My work productivity is very effective as a result of their efforts. They work very hard and diligently, and they deserve all respect.

Tasks that they normally would do for me and others on a daily basis (i.e., mail-outs, etc.), I will do myself today. :)

Working in an office with no clerical support staff has given me a new appreciation for their efforts.

I am my own admin assistant. I get NOTHING!
Ditto -- and squat for me, either.

When is Custodian/Janitor/Yardboy week? Sure wouldn't want Hallmark et al to miss out on all that. :-@

Instead of waiting for just 1 day out of the year,
I try to treat/bribe them at least once a month. :)

Our support specialist is great. The team is taking her to lunch tomorrow. But we try to show our appreciation all during the year, too.

Ok, a flowers and card at $10 bucks a person. Cool.
A meal on the planners at $10 bucks for me to eat and pitch in $10 for them to eat. Cool.

But both? freaking lame! :(

Congrats Cardinal. I wish I could have done that in my last job, but she was the only union employee, and she made the rest of us look good in comparison, so 2 strikes and I said WTF...

Now, I hardly know the admin, and rather like it that way.

My experience has been that a municipal planning department with a good secretary, er admin professional, is one that works. A planning department with a bad admin professional doesn't work.

Fortunately, I am in a "does work" department at the current moment. Makes life a lot easier.

Dedicated to One Particular Former "Administrative Professional" of Mine:

Just as soon as Middle class bureaucrat that is taxed to death because he earns a little more than Joe NASCAR (because he paid for his own college) who is expected to put his family life in his priority list way behind some piss ass job so he can work his way up to upper middle class, and take home even less money per hour all the while he puts up with ignorant blue collar office politics and basic ignorance day is over I'll start working on Whiny, lazy, “not in my job description,” protected by the Union, time-waster who bitches about how she was smart enough to go to college but didn’t because she didn’t come from a rich family like I did, but fails to mention she spent the same 10 years while I was in the Army paying for college and in college or working to pay for college she was drinking and whoring around the same ten square blocks she was born in day.

Our director gives our admin staff his credit card on Friday and sends them out to lunch. Granted, it takes the four of the admin staffer literally 4 days to carefully negotiate the location of said lunch, because each of them has certain places they won't, or don't want, to go eat.

You know eG, we're all sort of family here. You can tell us how you really feel. No need to mince words. It's OK.
