APA mailing list: Should APA have a New Urbanism division?

To: APA Division Members
Cc: APA Division Chairs, APA Divisions Council Executive Committee

The Divisions Council met during the last weekend in September at APA's Fall Leadership Meeting in Washington D.C. It was a lively and productive session, and a discussion about the formation of a new Division began, following a formal proposal made to the Council. We'd like to solicit your input on the subject, as a Division member.

The Council is asking for comments and opinions from Division members on the formation of a new division of APA, which would be based on New Urbanism. What are your thoughts on such a division? Is it necessary to serve the interests of APA's members? Is New Urbanism too narrow a focus? Would it overlap with the existing Urban Design and Preservation Division, or the City Planning & Management Division?

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. These online discussions will be archived and used to help the Divisions Council and the APA Board in their considerations on suggesting revisions to the proposal, and making a final decision.
