Friday has been declared a national day of mourning for President Reagan. Federal offices will be closed. For those of you in state or local government especially, are you getting the day off? There has been no decision here. I am working on getting the acting city manager to declare it.

There's been no mention here that we may close, so I'm expecting to be in (I even have an appointment at 9:00 with some Uber-Complainers) ;-)

I am slightly miffed that the City Council did not adopt a resolution at last night's meeting, nor did they even observe a moment of silence in rememberance of the President. No class, IMO.

The flag in front of the Village Hall is half lowered. I think that is about all we're getting.

No day off here either. Although, I'd already put in to have the day off, so I'll be mourning as we drive to Buffalo.

We'll Be Around, Too

Here, in the private sector, we'll be present and accounted for. We will, however, break around midday Friday for some jellybeans in honor of the Gipper.

An unexpected update

Our county commission just voted to close county offices on Friday. Sure caught us employees off guard.

We haven't heard anything of the Friday holiday. Our county is the recognized Deomocratic enclave for the state, so maybe it won't happen here.

A secretary here jsut confirmed that we won't be having Reagan Day off. Local politics in the Cleveland area are dominated by Democrats, which may or may not have something to do with it.

What about the other New England Cyburbians? You guys have so many local holidays ("Is next Friday Tea Party Day, Bunker Hill Day, or Battle of Lexington and Concord Day?"), adding one more day off to the mix isn't going to make much of a difference.

Anyway you could encourage your county to fax a copy of that resolution around to other county gov'ts? ;)

I'm not working Friday... but that's because it's my Regular Day Off (RDO). We only work 9 days in two weeks... total of 72 hours. Thank you Alberta!

I don't have the day off...but have heard our state may be shutting down. I know I may get some riled...but I don't think the federal government should shut down. .... most employees will be sleeping in,, playing golf,,,shopping,,, putzing around the yard....not paying respects to a president who has passed. It is a waste of tax dollars.

I don't think it was done via resolution, they just voted to close, but if I see anything that formal in writing, I'll post it.

I voted that I am Australian :-D . Also i hardly ever get a day off BUT my PA has been protecting this Friday for me and if nothing goes wrong tomorrow, Mrs Rem and I are spending the day in the vineyards. I'll give a thought to RR when sipping something deep bodied, well aged and (ironically) red.

However, my sister works for the federal government and she has Friday off and is using it to stretch out a short vacation to the panhandle of Florida (she is in Georgia, with the rest of my folks -- well, the ones that aren't in Germany, Indiana, etc). And I think Mr. Zone was saying something today about an unexpected announcement that they are to give an early release to all personnel that they can ...er... afford (?) to do so with. Which means he may not leave early, what with having taken the afternoon off today to have oral surgery and usually being pretty indespensable. And a workaholic.

I had already been planning to take Friday off as part of a long weekend trip to visit friends. . .in Baltimore and DC. Dear me, driving is not going to be fun.

department of redundancy department

To emphasize the obvious, our personnel office is calling all departments this morning to remind us that we are not closed tomorrow.

Seeing how I didn't put in that many hours this week, it would have helped if it wasn't a holiday so I could have put more hours in. My holiday pay is based on hours worked. But we're closed so it looks like the pay check will be short next week. Better get out the beer bottle savings account :5

I am "at" work...not certain about "working". Four of my seven employees took a vacation day for reasons other than mourning. I guess I have to stick it out just in case the phone rings. Probably a good time to get a couple of evaluations out of the way.

I'm here. Had my second interview for senior planner this morning. Few more things to do as well. This is my alternate Friday so I can go home early if I like. Haven't decided. My wife and some of her friends are getting together this afternoon at our house so I might avoid that and do something else. They are all fine women, but all Spanish speakers and I am not.

My husband IS off today. We plan on taking the kids to see Harry Potter, part of the low-key birthday celebration for our eldest son. :-D

And my final is due today. Sigh. I was supposed to work on that last night but the kids decided to start throwing furniture away at, um, 1 a.m.?? I am breathing better and so are they. Meanwhile, Mr. Zone's "Yes, just throw MORE money in the trash" high blood pressure problem seems to have taken a moderate spike. :p God, I hope that officer does NOT succeed in keeping him here. I want him out of here come fall -- and I no longer care that I have no idea how I will pay the bills. Details, details. :-D

We'll I ended up getting it off.. only because my wife and two kids decided to get a horrible case of the stomach flu or something. all three were sick on both ends.

not exactly a relaxing day off.. but it was nice to spend the day with them... regardless of how they've felt.
