I was wondering if anyone could explain this.

I was replying to a thread and attached a harmless image using the "image" function. When I previewed my post to see if the image would show up, it showed up as the most vile, disgusting image I have ever seen in my life. Either the picture somehow changed as someone's dirty trick or I am seeing horrific visions and need immediate help. Luckily I didn't just post it first.

We had a problem with that in a thread previously - I am not sure exactly what happens, but it may be that the original image "host" somehow redirects the link to something naughty. May be a defense against people hotlinking someone's pictures. I don't know really, but good thing you previewed first.

I've seen this happen before too. Certain sites(somethingrotten comes to mind) will do teh 'swtich' (they think they're getting one image, but the address is for something totally different) on a poster who intends one image, but gets something totally inappropriate, and ofetn plain old gross. Save the image(if you feel comfortable doing that at work) to your hardrive, then post it, see how that works.

Thanks. It wasn't an important picture so I will definitely leave it alone and try to find a good way to scrub my mind clean.

Hmmm....where are these disgusting a vile pictures of which you speak?

Sounds like an IT geek trick to be able to look at porn without it showing up as porn on the history?

It's a method some sites use to prevent bandwidth leeching.

There are certain sites where, if you try to refer to an image in a bulletin board with a different host, a "hotlinking prohibited" or similar image will display instead. Here's what happens when I try to reference an image from a site hosted on Tripod.

Some sites will display a pornographic or disgusting image in place of the "hotlinking prohibited" image if images are remotely hotlinked.

BTW, your membership will be suspended or banned if you hotlink to an image that redirects to an image of Tubgirl, Goatse, or something similar, and you don't edit the message. Just some common sense that might need reinforcing.
