My daily calendar indicates that today is St. George's Day in the UK. Anyone wanna take a stab at explaining the significance of this holiday? :)

St George is the patron Saint of England. He was either killed or born today in 404 CE. His claim to fame is killing a dragon to save a damsel and forcing a town to convert to Christianity. Richard the Lion Hearted also claims that he came from the heavens and helped him defeat the muslims during the Crusades.

How do I know this? it was on the radio this morning, Today in History for a real one audio link to the story.
