Beltway HOT Lanes Proposal Endorsed

I have read this story ("Beltway HOT Lanes Proposal Endorsed") with much interest; I don't live in the Washington D.C. area, but visit often (and have relatives there).

I do think, however, that it is a misnomer to allow these proposed lanes to be called HOT lanes, yet allow single-occupant vehicles to use them (even by paying a toll). Does not HOT stand for "High Occupancy Traffic", or am I confusing this with HOV ("High Occupancy Vehicle")?

HOT means "High Occupancy/Toll". It means you can get on it ether by carpooling or by paying a toll for the privilege.

If you are interested, we had a thread under
transportation about HOT lanes.

To me, a very important issue for future revenue
for transportation.
