While some of us believe that increasing urbanism is the answer to many of our problems this article from China (admittedly a bit dated) looks to cities as the ultimate answer. I would have to question the environmental impact of what is proposed.

Add this future with the combination of the completed Three Gorges Dam and China looks like it will be an environmental basket case! All they need is a Sino Chernobyl to round out the package (maybe a nuclear desert south of the Yalu River...)

They already have a nuclear desert. It is in mongolia along the former Soviet Union border. Both them and the Soviets disputed an area, so they both contaminated it so the other could not use it.
