Of course it's true that there is considerable technical know-how that only experienced and qualified planners could know; but planners should be the first professionals to understand that citizen input is an imperative quality in all good planning, without which, all plans -- big or small -- would eventually fail and indeed have in many cases where we continually see or study cases where development has become an eyesore or no longer works where it is situated.;)

Your words ring true, however, don't be fooled into thinking that input from communities means very much. Unfortunately, as you probably know quite well, money runs the country-- the thoughts of the people mean nothing (as the past presidential election specifically proves).

In some places, it does not matter how organized the communities are, how experienced the planners are, or even how motivated the administration is. I have (and am) seeing that the person who controls what happens, and what does not happen, is the person with the most money. To make things worse, they do not always use there own money for anything good.
