Conspiracy theories anyone?

We have all heard them. Most we have discounted. Some we silently wonder about and consider plausible. And one or two we know just have to be true. So, what are your conspiracy theory beliefs? JFK was killed by the Mafia? Hillary had Vince Foster killed? They faked the moon landing? Silent Kitten Death Syndrome is suddenly rampant in the KC area and you know why? Give us your best Oliver Stone take on a Fox Mulder theorem.

Here's one Sir Guaps Alot:

TV weatherpeople lie their asses off when forecasting for a community event. they claim the crappy weather will always happen after the event. Case in point: I was going to go to a special MLB game and the weatherman said it'll rain like hell, but after the game. Sure...a check of radar and one could clearly tell it was going to rain very soon and last very long. Needless to say the stadium got packed only to witness a rainout.

They always downplay bad weather during special events, and if there's no special event they hype the hell out of the weather. Conspiracy in the name of local economies and weather channel ratings.

I definitely believe the mafia killed JFK (actually the family dinner topic last night with Rob's family).

I'm not really a big on conspiracies. Does it count that I always think the federal government is lying to me, regardless of the White House administration?

There is some chick running around (I forget her name) claiming a link between the OKC bombing and WTC/Pentagon disaster.

I'm going to try to find a link to the story, sounds very credible though.

Being a transportation geek, the one conspiracy I've always wondered about was the one about GM destroying the streetcar as a mode of transportation in the U.S. by buying up struggling transit companies and converting them to buses. I can't remember now if they had proved/disproved this one conclusively...

Yeah, boring stuff I know.

BTW - The Canadian Conspiracy is real. And it's coming in the form of a donut shop near you, soon!

I concur - Its part of their being a "Team Player." You can't out run the long arm of the Chamber!

I agree with the weatherperson theory. I've heard about the GM theory, too.

What about the GM conspiracy where they program cars to make odd noises only when the wife is driving - the ones that mysteriously disappear when the husband checks the car? :)

In my family we attribute that to the fact that the men in our family are half deaf anyway. As evidenced by their inability to hear their wives tell them when we'll be home from wherever.

Seems to me that this one has been moved well beyond the theory stage. I still haven't forgiven Detroit for that and I'm none to happy about the proliferation of WMD, err SUVs, either.

They conspire to keep people out of the state by claiming it rains year-round...

Good to see that someone else appreciates the finer things in literature. Next porn avatar week look for Stinky.

I have all of the Big Books, for my favourite it is a toss up between Urban Legends and Conspiracies. The one on Saints was a waste of paper.

Other comics I read

Sin City
Cerebus
Concrete
Optic Nerve
Eight Ball
Sand Man Mystery Theatre (cancelled)

Back OT

The newest conspiracy theory I read in the paper (globe and mail) on the weekend is that no plane crashed into the pentagon, it was a way to reorganize and eliminate trouble makers in the services.

I'm not sure if this counts, as I've never tried to de-bunk it, but does fruit cake really taste horrible?

It was proven in a court of law and a minimal fine was levied. Firestone and Amoco, I beleive, were co-defendants.
