My boss is the county executive of a major NY State County. He wants to make sure that developments are assessed for their "traffic safety" impacts before they are given their permits and constructed. His basic idea is to make the county department of transportation responsible for "permitting" the construction of curb cuts on public streets, so that their location can be accepted or other traffic improvements can be made first (traffic signals, blinkers, signage, etc.). Does anyone know of another county (or city) that does this? We are interested in passing new legislation, so if anyone has a guide, I would love to use it as a base. . .
