For the first time since I have been here I get $$back from the state as well feds. Two kids in college really helped (but hurts in so many other ways!)

Me? Why I'm in it for $33 to Uncle Sam and $877 back from the Show Me State. I damn near wish they would keep it and fix the roads. It would save me $1000 in car repairs a year. Thank you home Mortgage deduction!

Note to you damn Furreners: We all actually pay into our governments. This is just the end of the year math to see what we get back from our prior monthly payments. As Doc Holiday would say, "its a day of reckoning."

I paid $6215 to the Feds + $2390 to the State + numerous personal property taxes, fuel taxes, social security, Medicare, phone taxes and on and on and on... Yes, I'm just guessing here, but at least 1/2 of what I made last year got ate in some form of tax. Don't even get me started on payroll taxes, which are hidden taxes on employees that the employer pays. Its Socialist America Baby! At least the weather is better than in Sweden...:)

Minnesota got us for $365 and Sammy got us for $535. Since we've been married, we've owed, even though we live near the poverty line(or at least feels like it). Can't wait for the big tax return next year(the kid is under a month away!).

If I used: the correct forms, the right numbers and did the math correctly,
then I calculated I should get a refund.

? At what point did you give in and go to a paid preparer ?

As previously described....had issues with the return getting back to me (finally did after filing an "injured spouse form")....but all in all my last married filing jointly netted a total refund of over $2400.....of which I saw a little over $1700 of after my ex-wife's portion was taken out and applied to her delinquent student loan.

No state income tax (or sales tax for that matter) in NH.....so Uncle Sam was it. ;-)

This was the first year I got really screwed on taxes, having not properly planned my post-divorce financial picture properly. Live 'n learn...

Substitute "we" for "I" in my case from Uncle Sam. The Independent Hoosier Republic is collecting a check for $112.

This year hiring would have made sense as Mrs. Gedunker had a settlement from her former employer; withdrew a retirement account; moved another account from the bad old former employer to an independent IRA; got unemployment; and began work in a different state. 2004 ought to be a little easier.

I do so love my two little deductions ... err, kids!

Considering my impressive income.... did I just hear laughs?...anyway after careful calculation.....

Uncle Sammy is giving me back $1,500 and the state of Illinois is giving me $50.

I'm sticking it to The Man, baby! He's the one sitting on the far right.

Nice, healthy, house-down-payment-assisting four digit return from the feds, and a good essential car repair-and-new-tires sized check from the state.

We're getting a little over $3200 from Uncle Sam and about $1300 from Guv Dirk. And like NHPlanner, the last "married, filing jointly" return.

Fed - hovering around $1000

State - would have been about $600, but silly comptroller doesn't think we should get our $500 deduction for student loan interest. Jerks!! ;-)

All money going to pay down student loans. Can't wait till those are gone!

I got about $2000 back from the IRS this year, which will be applied to Permanent Residency application fees and part toward a vacation. I think I'm getting $4 back from the Canadian government.

I filed this year using computer software for the first time - assuming I did it right my wife and I are getting about $2600 back. Probably use that to pay down some renovation debt.

I owed the feds 150 beans and the great state of NY 98--which is great because I graduated from college last may and made less than 10k in 2003. But next year my parents can't claim me as a dependent and I'll finally (hopefully, God willing) get money back...

Well, get married and have kids then, that will fix that problem.

I got a nice quadruple digit check from my Uncle but that went to my travel agent for my "wedding-moon". According to my calculations I was getting 3 digits from the Sovereign Republic of Maryland. However, the post office dropped off a letter saying please remit $87.28 to His Royal Highness, the Comptroller. I can't wait until the future Mrs. north omaha star make it official in July and buy our stately Wayne Manor in the fall.

Got a nice mortgage payment and a bit from Uncle Sam and the Hoosier Republic. Gotta love being a responsible adult, filing jointly, paying bills..... |-) Gone are the days of taking the refund out to a bookstore, and dinner, followed by a movie...

At first our IRS forms were rejected b/c we didn't have a SS# for the kid, but now that is resolved and we are getting some money back from the Feds just in time for moving expenses! Yippeee!! Money I'll never see.

I graduated in Dec., made around 11K, and the great state still wanted $26 from me.

Nice little check from the feds thought, $187. How nice of them to give me back my money, I didn't even charge any interest. |-)

Our refund is paying for 40 weeks of daycare this year. We still file single zero, so we can get an enormous refund, which we then stick in the bank and draw from all year. I know - why give Uncle Sam the free loan yada yada yada, but with interest rates so low, we just don't need the hassle of keep track of yet another slice out of our paychecks to set into the bank. Getting it in one chunk is so supremely satisfying.

I got enough back to pay for the wedding photographer in full and all the other deposits. My other, and better, half got more back than I did and we bought a new living room set with it. :) We always allow ourselves to have fun with one and be responsible with the other.

I cannot wait until next year, we're getting married and buying a house so hopefully we'll break even.
