Ok, this may be very clique, but if you could invite five people (alive or dead) to dinner (and they were guaranteed to show up), who would you invite?

Has this type of thread been posted lately?

I guess I am not much for celebrity the first two people I thought about were my grandparents that are both dead.
My ex brother-in-law who has always been the most appreciative of everything I cook, always teasing that it is the BEST he has ever had, and would come at the drop of a dime!
That's three.

Actually, I just enjoy cooking for others and wish I could do it more often. I have always liked the kind of friends that just show up and you say wanna eat and they say yes.

Can you ask him why they haven't released anything good since "And Justice For All?"

I thought the Black Albuma and lesser extent Load and lesser Reload were good. True, they were not they same as the earlier albums. Bands progess and try new things. I listen to early Joe Satriani and it is great and different, but so is the new material. Bands that play the same s**t over and over soon find out they are not a band anymore.

Did you catch Metallica on the american music awards last night? St. Anger has been out awhile. You'd think they would play something other than their first single. Hell, they should have played Battery or For Whom the Bell Tolls. That would have kick a**!

By the way, I like the Garage Inc. discs a lot.

I can't decide which 5 members of the Swedish Bikini Team I'd want to invite so I'll just go with the following:

David Livingstone (distant relative, explorer of Africa)
Winston Churchill (just how close did the allies come to losing WWII)?
Philip K. Dick (fav sci-fi author)
Lester B. Pearson (Former Canadian Prime Minister, Nobel Peace Prize winner, helped create UN Peacekeeping role)
Harry Truman (Former U.S Pres - cold war and nation building insights)

Hmmm...a bunch of dead white guys - what fun!

Fred Weidman, age 25 - My maternal grandfather. He worked for the Dodge Brothers in Detroit at the beginning of the auto industry.

Eddie Izzard - wickedly funny comedian
Patrick Henry - a true 'liberty or death' kind of person
Filipo Brunelleschi - designer of Santa Maria Della Fiore's dome in Florence, Italy (Il Duomo)

I guess I'd better get rid of those thoughts of you and me...;) I'd have to dig around and find out the relation to myself. Would be interesting. My mom has done some geneaology so I should ask her.

when I was at school in Mississippi half the kids claimed to be related to him. Either he was a machine in the sac or there is a lot of wishful thinking going on. (not that I doubt either of you) ;) :)

It would be. But If I were sitting in that group, I would not understand a damn thing they said.

OK, other than my list, yours is my other favorite. Again, thinking about the interactions of the assemblage.

Einstein and Christ are definately good company. The problem I'm having with this list is I'd like to get two women famous for their character. How about Calamity Jane? anybody got some suggestions?
