I was going to nominate the British girl manning the Taylor and Francis publications booth. She was far more approachable than the women attending the Island Press booth, who seemed to exude an "I'm smarter than you are!" air. Their schwag was hidden away, but it was worth it - psychedelic blue oil-filled coasters, advertising the INternational Journal of Water Resources Development.

My nomination for best ruler/scale - American Society of Landscape Architects. Their 6" aluminum architect's scales were all snapped up by day two. Kudos!

Best pen - Wilbur Smith and Associates. Their gimme' pens are ballpoint (not rolling ball or gel), but they have a substantial, expensive feel. It makes up for their contribution to the "lamest schwag" category - moist towelettes.

Lots of exhibitors gave away nice carabiner keychains, which seemed entirely appropriate given the conference location in Denver. "Not suitable for climbing."

There were a few cheapos that didn't even give away cheap pens or even mints. Lane Kendig, Planapolis, Independent Telecommunications Consultants ... c'mon!
