Does anyone have any regulations for garden ponds? I am looking for size limits, depth limits, safety requirements, etc. I have this dude who wants a 20 foot long pond in his yard, which he intends to stock with fish. Please keep in mind that this is not some rural country estate, but rather a small parcel in an urban setting.

Check your buildig codes. Out here, anything over 24 inches deep requires a security fence or cover. Other than that safety issue, it is his/her yard.

Is there some kind of limit on number of pets in your community? Are fish pets? Maybe it would be considered a kennel or animal breeder.

If it is residential - our community also requires fencing for water that is a certain depth - our building dept's big headache right now is those 3' deep inflatable pools.

If it is commercial - do you have some sort of site plan alteration process that you can send him through?
