Gun shops may get zoning exemption
Panel OKs banning local limits on location; Louisville excluded

"There is no other business that has this type of exemption."

The four-line bill changes state zoning law to say that no local government shall use zoning laws to prohibit a gun dealer or gun manufacturer from locating in an area where another business may locate.

.
Not really a business. But churches have Federal zoning overrides and certain exemptions from zoning in California. Housing also has some exemptions in CA.

In my opinion, the state and federal overriding of local zoning is the most serious potential threat to local control. As soon as some special interests start getting exemptions, you will see the flood.

Coming soon...

US Constitution - Amendment 28

No state, county, parish, city, or other form of government may regulate the operations, location, or labor practices of Wal-Mart Inc. or any other retail establishment with more than 200,000 sq feet of floor space.

In the article is this quote:
Some lawmakers, ...., wondered whether other businesses –– such as adult entertainment –– will now seek exemptions from local zoning laws.

UPDATE:GUN INDUSTRY
Bill bars zoning limits on makers, dealers

http://www.courier-journal.com/localnews/2004/03/30ky/A7-guns0330-6231.html

The House passed a bill yesterday exempting gun dealers and manufacturers from most zoning regulations directed at them,

Bill will be returned to the Senate for consideration of an amendment. The bill's sponsor, Sen. Albert Robinson, R-London, said he expected the Senate to pass it and send it to Gov. Ernie Fletcher.
