How to stay healthy duing a long winter ---a long winter in Arctic Alaska with extended dark periods, chilling temps and winds, and no road connections to any other community.

We stay as active as possible. I try my best to walk to an from my early morning program on KBRW public radion. It is about 2 miles away, and my route crosses places where polar bears are occasionally sighted. So I look carefully, but keep walking.

Having dogs is a big plus. They need extended walking no matter what the weather --our two Greenland Huskies. So it is bundle up and away we go.

Mainly, keep in touch with others, eat prudently (even ice cream....)
and help others in a number of ways.
