G'day. I'm a first timer so please be gentle!!

A bit about me. I'm from the northern side of Sydney Australia and run my own practice - a multi-disciplinary practice comprising law, town planning, building consulting etc. I act for a wide variety of clients from property developers to local authorities and from Mums & Dads to corporations.

I'm looking for adventure and am seriously looking for an opportunity to work o/s - though I haven't decided where. Possibly the US or Canada or the UK. I need some contacts. Can anyone throw me a line?

look forward to talking planning/law/building - and possibly the prospect of some travel and work.

Cheers

:D

Thanks. Forgive me if I'm a little slow with responses.

Where are you and what kind of work are you doing?

I'm in the New Orleans area and when I'm not wasting billable hours on Cyburbia, I manage the planning projects for a small engineering and planning firm. :)

I'm in the UK, working on an engineering doctorate in environmental technology (specialising in decision analysis and road maintenance). In other words, I don't really have anything to do with planning, I just loaf around the forums for the entertainment value.

Well... do you think I can find an Atlas in this office???

I think I'll have to buy one of those spinning globes so I know where you people are.

I spent 10 years in local government (know what you are saying Plannergirl). I found that the greatest challenge in local gov was educating the old school/deadwood around the office. Drove me nuts and I jsut gave up in the end.

I left lgov having completed law and worked for a medium sized law firm providing legal services to a variety of clients including local government. Fantastic role - really enjoyed working with the Council people again. After 7 years, took an inhouse position with a group of development and construction companies. They were ordered into liquidation by the Supreme Court on the petition of our equivalent of your IRS. The director was a bad boy.

I'm 12 months into my own business. I do a lot of advocacy in our Land and Environment Court in planning merit appeal matters and civil/environmental enforcement/environmental prosecutions.

Great talking to you all. Its 1.00am here and I'm off.

Me ... planning director for a small, historic town about 20 km from Orlando, Florida.

(It took me 20 minutes to type that message -- phone calls and other interruptions. It's very ... no, make that 45 minutes ... very busy around here.)

I'm the Community Services Director in a small, very depressed, ex-logging town in Oregon.

So I'm the planner, the public works director, the housing rehab coordinator, the grant writer and administrator... You get the picture. (Oh, and this week the City Admin is on vacation this week, so I'm the big kahuna.)

Not easy to do, but at least my days are never the same! My only rufusal was doing minutes. I DON'T DO MINUTES!

Welcome, Which Hat - I think you'll find that we're a pretty diverse crew here on Cyburbia. I'm the low girl on the totem pole at the Planning Department for a prosperous suburb in upstate New York - lots of code enforcement and staffing our weekly planning board meetings and the subsequent clean up afterward.

When I asked for a job description, the City Admin, now my boss said, and I quote, "If it isn't on fire, bleeding, or in the back of a police car, it's your job."

How can one resist a challenge such as that?

Oooo! What a good topic! How about, "what's on your agenda today?"

Hi Which Hat... and welcome!

It sounds like you have an ecclectic development/planning background... and it will be great to have some more people from Oz on the boards :)

I'm the Senior Planner in a town of about 50,000 outside of Edmonton, Alberta.... I do mostly long range/policy stuff.

Welcome Which Hat. I am sure that you will enjoy yourself here. I just posted a new thread in the cities forum looking for info about your neighbor New Zealand. Maybe you would know the answer?
