Position: Preservation Officer Rate: $48,962.51 annually
Department: Metropolitan Development Full Time
Duties:

Receives and responds to requests from the public, civic groups, City departments, and technical associations for information pertaining to historic preservation requirements, Historic Tax Credits and related concerns. Reviews plans and specifications for federally-funded rehabilitation of structures with historic value to ensure compliance of federal regulations. Writes grant proposals for the purpose of obtaining funding. Prepares National Historic Register nominations and Historic Tax Credit applications. Processes grant reimbursement claims. Promotes community preservation activities. Provides technical assistance. Researches information and writes various historic related booklets and guides. Represents Historic Preservation on boards as appointed. Provides oversight on Old Post Office. Reviews demolition applications. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Historic Preservation, Architecture, Architectural History, Urban Planning or equivalent in training and experience. Possess broad knowledge of national and local architectural, history and all federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to historic preservation. Knowledge of Section 106 regulations, procedures, and standards. Understanding of HUD Environmental Review standards and procedures. Understanding of historic preservation grant development procedures and ability to write effective grant proposals. Ability to communicate effectively. Effective presentation and public speaking skills. Requires valid Indiana Driver’s License and use of personal vehicle to conduct inspections. Knowledge of local history. Knowledge of personal computers and related software for email, word processing, spreadsheets, mapping, database management and others.
