The damage was not too near where Dan lives or works.

We had a house 2 miles from my parent's house destroyed. My extended family spent about 30 minutes in the underground bathroom shelter Sunday at the rents.

Good to hear.
I didn't know that youwere from that area. Everyone in your hometown make it through OK?

Any news from Dan this morning?
I'm fine. While tornadoes hit Wyandotte County and the northern suburbs of Kansas City, all I got was a little bit of rain and a lot of wind. (I'm in northern Johnson County, Kansas, about 3 km west of the Missouri state line.) I mowed my lawn while houses were being uprooted in KCK; I could hear the faint wail of tornado sirens from across the county line.

Later that night, though, my area got a spectacular Jesus-is-coming-now-and-He's-pissed-style thunder and lightning storm, and some .22 ammo-sized hail.

My Chief Building Inspector and Secretary are in SE Kansas as part of a state Disaster Assessment Team. They help out the overwhelmed locals, do walk throughs of structures to determine which are safe enough to enter, and help with the mountains of paperwork. We just hope nothing happens here while they are away.

Basement

I was in my basement in Leavenworth for 30 minutes. I guess southwest Missouri got hit really hard. I believe there was damage in Parkville, MO and southern Leavenworth County.

Every year we duck tornados about 3 times.

Glad you are ok Budgie!
However, I heard that a Segway was found punched through a tree in Gladstone.

:D
