'Burbia got a shout-out from the Planning Peeps in how to "learn from other planners" https://www.planningpeeps.com/planning-blog/5-pro-tips-to-up-your-urban-planner-game
But are we still all old farts? :D

^ That's more of an APA chapter listserv guy. The kind who quotes 10 emails only to add two lines.

So old, he still complains about the merger of the AIP and ASPO.

So old, he advocated for converting your city's streetcar system to buses.

So old, he can justify why he included haberdasheries, telegraph offices, coopersmithing, taxi dancing halls, and horse whipperies in the zoning code he wrote.

So old, he still thinks "hot-dog stands" are the biggest threat to America's scenic roadsides.

So old, he signs his name with a Leroy lettering set.

So old he planned the proposed freeway projects that your state DOT cancelled in the early 1970s.

So old his idea of "mixed use" is having a cul-de-sac of single family houses and a cul-de-sac of townhouses next to each other.

So old he thinks any multimodal transportation plan is incomplete if it doesn't consider stolports.

So old the ASPO honored him as the inventor of the 35' single family home height limit.

So old he was disappointed when exhibitors stopped giving away cigarettes as conference schwag.

So old he used 2¢ stamps to post to planning mailing lists.

So old he devised sign ordinances around regulating the maximum allowable number of 'Burma Shave' panels

24218

So old residential zoning districts were broken down by ethnic group.

So old remembers when public hearings were broadcast by the Town Crier

24219

So old the enabling authority for the zoning ordinance he wrote was a Colonial Charter

So old that when speaking about a community having 'drawbridge mentality' he's referring to towns surrounded by a wall, moat, and portcullis

So old, he worked to promote stabilization and integration of "changing" neighborhoods, rather than battling "gentrification" and "whitewashing".

So old, one of the major planning issues during his career was housing prices that were too low

(With everybody moving to the suburbs, we can't even pay people to live here!)

So old, he thought the standard of 1 parking space per 200 square feet of retail space wasn't enough.

(And that's what the parking lot looked like at 6:00 AM on a Wednesday morning during the spring, when the kids are still in school.)

So old he recalls people doing whatever the hell they wanted to do with their land and a better time when free people didn't have to come hat-in-hand to ask some 24 year old dandy down at city hall if they could exercise their constitutional right to build a tannery downtown next to the hospital.

Let's go the other way.

Zie's UW Madison MUP is so fresh the MUP program faculty denounced the program at graduation as being racist for containing the terms Urban and Master.

Both terms were declared pejoratives assults on all LGBTTQQIAAP+ people by the racist western white hegemony, and Carl the one white guy on the planning department faculty.

The UWM Dean of Inclusiveness and Nonviolence lit the Trump effigy, which was burnt at the conclusion of the ceremony.

In Zie's workplace, Zie prefers any reference to Zie's education or degree by Zie's planning peers be Che.

Zie comes to work when it appeals to Zie and is surprised when people fail to understand the profound nature of Zie's insights.

So old, he re-keyed articles advocating horse-and-buggy-free cities every day on Redditelegraph.

So old, you can safely assume he's a he. "Why, of course there are wo-men in the town-planning office! Abigail, fetch me my ci-gars and gin!"

So old, his idea of a plain English code is something that uses only 100 words to explain there's a 25' minimum front yard setback in the R-1 zone.

So old, he calls upzoning "downzoning".

So old, he wrote a sign code with minimum sign size requirements.

So old, he denied a building permit for a synagogue, because the zoning code only allows churches.
