I was a bad planner.

I butted into their Earth Day discussion and I didn’t hold the concept as sacred as they did. I guess I was a little flippant – I know that is hard for you to believe. I disagreed with one fellow who was spouting gibberish about planners being some form of unindicted co-conspirator with the evil eco-wreckers that are developers, and I essentially called one of them a commie after he declared that jobs are bad and giving people hope leads to EVIL SPRAWL (forget starvation or dictatorships - we got Sprawl to deal with) - we can't have that. And I may have messed with a guy who suggested through inference that the constitutional right to private property is a bad idea. Then I got a little sarcastic, as I can do. It turns out that neither one has actually taken a stand professionally for these ideas they hold sacred when I asked them about their personal actions to save mother earth. I guess they plan on bringing down the engines of commerce from within like the Charlie did in the Nam. Look what a people's paradise they got going. And then I was told that by removing the posts that so outraged them I lost credibility. Like I need the Militant wing of the People's Planning Collective's respect. So, I probably didn’t represent the unwashed masses of Cyburbia with enough intellectual aplomb.

For now on when I venture outside of the confines of the fun side of Cyburbia I will do my best to write like George Will. And I promise not to call anyone a freakin' Trotskyite again –even if they are.

El Guapo is notgoing to turn the radio playing the Rush Limbaugh show off and take his meds. Nope! And you can't make me!

Sheesh, so did I and I regret it. I'll stick to flim-flam threads from now on.

No more attempts to play with the real planners.

If I can get Super Wal-Mart to plant some trees in the parking lot I'll be happy. The City had to lay off three people so, even if I don't agree with Wal-Mart, bring them on, we need the valuation. Maybe if the crew strikes oil under the town square, we can worry about sprawl, but until then we must grow to survive.

I like fast cars, and faster women...

You don't believe in letting the grass grow under your feet, do ya?

El Guapo - did you give approval for PlannerGirl to go out and find her own dates?

I've worn out the Mafia thing.

PlannerGirl doesn't need my permission to cavort and frolic.
Dave F., however does.

Ok - Dave F. you have been a good sport. I'll drop this Mafia Don routine - you do have to admit it was funny for at least the first two posts.

And if anything you owned burnt down in the last three days - I had nothing to do with it. Giff is the firebug.

Evil Co-worker

El,

How do you know I've been a good sport? I could be laying low until I collect my chips from PlannerGirl, you never know. Better to keep them guessing.

P.S. As an Italian-American, I liked it better back when geeks everywhere wanted to be Yoda and Spock rather than mafiosi. I wish those days would return.

Sorry If I offended your sensibilities. Really. Truly.

I remember when the mentally disadvantaged wrote bTurk (becasue of his avatar) all those letters back in March. Well they weren't really letters. While they had some actual letters on the paper, they were mostly just crayon pictures of dogs and flowers. But bTurk got the message though. We knew that making sport of people because they were different was something we could no longer get away with. We didn't even know you were different when this whole Italian bashing frenzy got underway. I guess it just got away from us. Sorry.

In closing - please feel free to pick on my Irish, German, English, and Italian ancestry anytime. Though for the life of me I can’t think of anything the Irish, English or Germans do that would warrant making fun of? Also, I'm short, white and fat and a registered republican. Something in there has to be funny.

PS: How do you and PlannerGirl work together when she is in DC and you are in PA? - Some kind of teleporter? - If so, can you aim it at Florida?

PPS: What part of Italy are the Fowlers from?

The Fowlers are not from Italy, they're my (adopted) father's family. (btw, thanks for outing me)

Individuals with Soprano-envy don't offend me, it's the mass phenomenon of people only having mob movies to "teach" them about Italian-American culture thanks to our wonderful media. This is why several New Jersey cities and counties will not allow the filming of the Sopranos within their boundaries. Myself I grew up in the tumbleweed belt, not too much mob activity until you get out to Las Vegas.

Hey, even if you didn't like my first post, it sure helped keep this thread a heck of a lot more active than is the norm (although I'm sure the redheaded twentysomething planner who reponds to posts didn't hurt either!!).

Out of Context Professional Issue: If you live in the municipality in which you work, or otherwise live nearby, you should register as unaffiliated/independent. Very effective at reducing the catcalls of "socialist" or "developer's buddy" we planners are prone to run into.

Okay, I promised myself never to do this. However, geographic undesirability forces me to resort to drastic measures.

Behold the excesses of American consumption! Behold Dan's backyard! Look upon it, ye mighty, and despair.

I always thought that all the zoning ordinances in Florida required pools....you mean there's a choice? :)

Pools a hole in the ground you sink money into

What are you guys talking about? You gonna make Dan's life way more high maintenance! Wha-at? with a pool? and that babe looks very pouty and whiny to me.

It is tough work making and maintaining friendships especially new ones - When my husband lived in Pompano Beach there was a large of group of mutual friends and new acquaintences that would meet for volleyball at the beach. Most were new to the area.

But in other situations maintaining that social circle sometimes means traveling and staying the weekend in another city.
