We have SAVE. They are the Seniors Against Virtually Everything. They are even against using scooters on the sidewalks and are trying to impose a speed limit on our sidewalks!

SOREASS - Save Our Rural Estates And Stop Subdividing.

They've already built their Vinyl Villa in the countryside, now they want to keep the others out so they can enjoy the views.

Here we deal with a lot of:

WOOFs (Well Off Older Folks)

and the occasional

SITCOM (Single Income Two Children Opressive Mortgage)

These two kinds exist mainly in large estate housing developments on the outskirts of town. They would like to close the door behind them, demonstrating an attitude of "I can move out here... but no one else..."

BOHICA - Bend Over Here It Comes Again

Not purely a planning acronym, but one of my favorites and applicable to many situations.

I love the ones posted plus these:

CEQA: Consultants Employment Quality Act [California Environmental Quality Act]

DBTD/DBTN: Two common vaccines used by planners to “fix” a project they don’t like. DBTD is technically Death By a Thousand Days and DBTN is Death By a Thousand Nicks [also known as the BED Principle—“Bleed ‘em Dry”]

DUDE: Developer Under Delusions of Entitlement

GOAH Gedoudaheah

GOOMBA Get out of my business area

GUMBY Gaze upon my backyard [Opponents of residential walls and fences]

KIIMBY Keep it in my backyard

NIABY Not in anyone’s backyard

NIMD Not in my district

NIMEY Not in my election year

NIMFOS Not in my field of sight

NIMFYE Not in my front yard either

NITL Not in this lifetime

NORF No observable redeeming features

NOT None of that

NOTE Not over there either

NUMBY Not under my backyard

PIITBY Put it in their backyard

QUIMBY Quit urbanizing in my backyard

Are the some regional planning acronyms? Here in northern California, we have names for our fellow BATs (Bay Area Transplants).
