Portland's Alphabet District neighborhood is at the northwest end of the city's streetcar (not to be confused with MAX light rail) line, about three kilometers from the city's downtown.

I noticed the same thing, too ... BUT I saw African-Americans in all areas, from suburban TODs to downtown. They are a very low percentage of the population, but otherwise there seems to be far more -- and better -- integration in Portland than in ... oh, Chicago.

Nice pics, but could you tell the nice people that if they want to sell clothes, do it indoors, rather than in the sidewalk :p

SkeL, this gives the town personality with a “street life” rather than the sterile walls absent of people and things.
