It is my distinct pleasure to open the Random Thoughts Thread for 2016. Our friend Bear was not only a stalwart in the community, but was the mind behind one of the greatest threads on Cyburbia. We remember his contribution to our community by opening the year with his words.

What were you doing on 5-31-03? This Bear was taking his first walk in Cyburbialand. So, what has happened since then?

Told y'all about De Noc. Endlessly.
Shared some fun moments.
Shared some not-so-fun moments.
Started numerous threads, many of which enabled crickets.
Authored the infamous Random Thoughts threads, a grande tradition.
Co-hosted the Death Pool threads. Yeah, yeah.....very late on updates this year, yadda.
Posted over 9000 times.
Lumbered over to Stanfests in Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids, and Ann Arbor. Bears lumber, donchaknow?!
Watched, via the magic of this here interweb thingy, as numerous Cyburbians came and went.
Felt a real sense of loss when the death of Chet was announced.
Shared my somewhat varied musical tastes.
Bragged about my homeland, NW Ohio, Toledo, Swanton, very rural Henry County.
Kept all up-to-date on that patch of America known as The Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Berated and praised my Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings.
Shouted from the highest hill, Go Blue!
Screamed in glory then pain as my Pittsburgh Steelers won a couple Super Bowls and then lost one.
Provided details (sometimes way too much) about my life, loves, marriages, relationships, yadda.
Smiled as my friends from Cyburbia all piled into my rugged Tundra for a long, fun ride.

Thanks for the swell ride. Hope to enjoy many more miles.

Bear
Each year we continue to take this ride together. Thank you for being members of our community. Thank you for being friends. Please join us in 2016 with more Random Thoughts.

Happy 2016 everyone!

Why can't my kids sleep in? Went to bed at 1 am, but got up with the kids at 6 am.

Wife went running at 7:30 am.

Happy New Year everybody.

Blue skies today are the first since Christmas Eve, if I'm not mistaken.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Started mine off with sleeping in, brunch, some reading, a nice nap, and am now waiting for hubby to bring back dinner from whereever he hunted and/or gathered.

2016 is off to a good start!

I spoil my kids. This is clear when I am home with them for any period of time. Their understanding of being bored, or nothing to do, is really sad. USE YOUR IMAGINATION. YOU HAVE A HOUSE TO PLAY IN. USE IT!

The Christmas tree is outside, decorations are packed and the floor is mopped. I wanted to leave it up for another week, but, heck, today's garbage day and I didn't want to wait for it to roll around again. No, I don't recycle my trees right now, but I have in the past.

It's sad to see the holidays end. The time between now and warmer days is the longest time of year for me. It doesn't seem as though the days are getting longer, but I really notice when days get shorter.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Same here: tree, roping, and wreath dropped off at recycling location; ornaments repacked and safely down the basement; floors cleaned and furniture restored to its proper place. I like Christmas but it really sneaked up on me this year, but now I'm glad it is over and gone.

Power is restored to the more than 2,000 people who lost power.
Turns out a squirrel on a transformer is to blame for the outage.

what does fried squirrel taste/smell like ? ;)

Mine did one year, but hasn't in a while.

I used to volunteer at a local tree collection, but that hasn't happened for a while, either. I'm not sure where the nearest tree collection point it, but I don't really have a way to transport a tree. I'm running out of favors.

Christmas is all packed up so happy new year.

I resolve to be employed the entire year. I was fired last year at this time, but they took me back along with the other two directors they fired.

I resolve not to laugh or cry when the local election results come out. I'll still celebrate some though.

And I've resolved to drop 30 lbs by doing a little extra walking and cutting way back on the Dr. pepper.

On a side note for small Texas towns I applied to, don't go sending out a rejection notice before the job posting is officially closed. Bad form and could get you in trouble. Through the process I guessed they had an internal hire in mind or someone already picked out. Good for them. I actually wish cities didn't have to post jobs when they do that.

All week 17 NFL games should begin at the same time. That is all.

[I'm making it my business to try to set an annual posting record in RTDNTOTO11, just because.]

Third ER trip this weekend for my son's asthma. He has an appointment with a specialist next week. I don't know why they don't admit him.

If that is your goal, I cannot support you enough. Good luck and get it done!

It's weird seeing RTDNTOTO only two pages long.

Who knows maybe it will be Suburb Repairman or luckless pedestrian that splits the first thread. It is, after all, a possibility.

I know of at least one of our beach communities here that has a big "tree dumping" ceremony. They all take the trees to the beach and dump them where the dunes need replenishment. The trees are natural sand catchers and help rebuild them pretty fast.

I hate that. I had one crawl up and get fried on the overhead service coming to my last rental house. It ended up killing an alarm clock, CO detector, the dishwasher, a Keurig coffee maker, a vacuum sealer, and later on the clothes washer (it was damaged, just took a while to go). Luckily it didn't get my TV or any electronics. For this reason, I despise overhead services. My house now has it, but getting it run underground is still a year or two away.

Let's face it, for 99% of humanity (and I count myself among this number) electricity = magic. Seriously, it exists on pretty much the same plane as black holes and parallel universes.

I missed my tee time on New Years Day. Well 4 hours of sleep wasn't going to making it a good round anyway no matter how much Gatorade & Advil I could have consumed.

Apparently there was a murder over the weekend in my fair county. Way down south in one of the more remote areas. Supposedly they basically tortured this guy, possibly in front of his family. Coincidentally, he was scheduled to appear in court today on various drug charges....

He was murdered at his farm where he grew "hydroponic tomatoes and mushrooms". I'm sure that's all he was growing.

I like to grow "hydroponic tomatoes" in my closet. The artificial light doesn't bother me as much. :D

Back to work. :(

wow - it seems so weird to see this as a new thread

I am sorry I missed the final days of rapid posting but I left my laptop in Syracuse so last week I was without my computer at work and I really hate posting off my iphone to this site

I did get a lot done at work without a computer - I cleaned most of my office out, called a bunch of people I needed to check in with, walked the beat of my downtown and planned my revenge for 2016...

My work new year's resolution is to keep a work diary - I used some of my office supply funds and got the A4 architects and designers diary - when I was in the private sector, we all had these as a staple item - it's a great way to track what I did, who I talked to, where I went, how many hours I really put in that day, and log the crazy $%^& that happens...

my personal one is to do daily stretches and take a noontime walk a few days a week - I already blew stretching this morning but maybe it's after work :a:

and yes on Aspen, I would totally go there

I would take this job in a heartbeat if my wife let me and they hired me....

My wife would not let me go somewhere colder, but I think I might enjoy it.

Best news story of the new year, look up Y'all Qaeda, because "Every successful revolution starts with the take over of a closed visitor center and gift shop."

I don't usually make resolutions, but this year, I resolve to use my vacation before December.

I keep a phone log, and our timesheets have a line to describe activities.

We missed you, but you can make up the missed posts through the year to boost the total.
