Rating the Days of the Week

It almost goes without saying that most folks prefer days of the week where they don't have to work, which puts Saturday and Sunday firmly at the top of the Days of the Week Food Chain in the vast majority of minds. But that still leaves a lot of room for other days to jockey into a more favorable position. As far as worst days of the week, Monday is often thrown to the lions, being as it's the first day following the weekend, but I'm not sure Tuesday in it's own way isn't more horrible. On Monday the week has yet to take proper form, but by Tuesday the dragons and sea monsters before you have often reared their ugly heads, and the sense of dread is more palpable. Sunday is an odd bird, because one doesn't have to work, but the day (particularly the eveining) is often marred by a general sense of uneasy anticipation. Friday afternoons, by contrast, are often almost joyful, despite the fact one typically (that is if one isn't RJ) has to work, as one races to the finish line and the checkered flag can usher in the promise of debauchery the weekend holds

In what order do you rank the days of the week and why?

Tuesdays are the worst- for reasons you already hinted at.
Thursdays are second worst. Kind of like you are faced with trying to finish what you need to do that week before it becomes a big cluster or a defeat on friday.
Mondays are kind of blah, but not awful. I rank mondays 5th.
Wednesdays aren't too bad. Everything seems to be flowing in optimum fluidity. Plus- its hard to knowck a day commonly known as "hump day".
Fridays are pretty cool, as you already mentioned. I rank them 3rd.
Sundays are 2nd, for the reasons you already mentioned.
That leaves Saturday and Snuffleluffadays as tied for first.

1. Saturday - :8:What a day, Groovin' all week with you...:8:
2. Sunday - putter around, almost as good as Saturday
3. Friday - the day the weekend REALLY begins
4. Thursday - it's the day before Friday
5. Wednesday - "hump day", also it's the day before Thursday, which is the day before Friday...
6. Tuesday - only 3 days till Friday...
7. Monday - 4 days till Friday...you get the picture

1. Saturday is the best day of the week - this is the day we set aside for pure enjoyment - rules are no schoolwork and no going to the store.
2. Sunday is almost as good - Wife and son may go to church. Followed by shopping at Wally World and elsewhere. Homework to do too.
3. Friday is a good day. We often have the best chicken in town and watch movies in the evening.
4. Wednesday is a pretty good day usually - middle of the week. Homework is manageable. Work load is manageable.
5. Tuesday is a fairly good day - may have a Commission meeting and a presentation or not. Or a Planning Board meeting or work session. Wife and son have night classes. I hang out at the library.
6. Monday is okay. The day when we have the weekly meetings, which I do not really enjoy.
7. Thursday's pretty suck. May have a Commission meeting. My son has two afterschool classes. And a punishing load of homework. We often have to work well past his bedtime. Very stressful day.

Monday-3
Tuesday-3
Wednesday-3
Thursday-3
Friday-3
Saturday-3
Sunday-3

I guess my present situation is a bit different than most others. When I had a normal work week it was similar to imaplanner.

Ranking the days

In order of awesomeness

1. Saturday - No work, no work the next day, beach and beer time!
2. Sunday - no work, beach and beer time!
3. Tuesday - Tacos! That pretty much sums it up.
4. Friday - All hail ye end of work week.
5. Thursday - 1/2 off wine and and all-you-can-eat soup and salad at Aunti Pastos
6. Wednesday - A great happy hour day at Mai Tais or Wahoos to celebrate hump day.
7. Mondays - There is never anything to do after work on Mondays!

My day ranking system seems to rely heavily on food and drinks. Hmm...

A streamlined mental model to be sure, but concerning Great Anticipation and Growing Dread wouldn't you agree that most things in life (including days of the week) are seldom as good as you hope or as bad as you fear?

Sunday is probably my worst day, especially on weekends that I have the kids and have to drop them off at the EX's at 7:00PM on Sunday. It's depressing knowing that I won't have them overnight again for almost 12 days.

Monday is just a little bit better. Only 11 1/2 days by then.

I probably have to agree that Tuesday is probably the worst day of the week. It's the real Monday. Monday, everybody's just sort of trying to get back into the groove of things. But by Tuesday, you better have your sh!t together and your nose to the grindstone, getting done whatever it is you need to get done.

Right now, it's hard for me to rank the days of the week, since I'm working two jobs, which means I work part of every day of the week. I still have to say though, that Mondays are alright, I'm usually pretty relaxed and use Monday morning to get back into the groove of things at my internship, checking emails, prioritizing tasks, catching up with people, and spend the rest of the day all motivated and refreshed, working on whatever projects I'm working on. But Tuesday usually sucks. As stated before, you gotta work hard that day, getting whatever it is you need to get done. Wednesday's usually nice though, especially since I have Thursday off, until I start my other job at 10pm on Thursday night. Thursday night I go in to Walmart with a positive attitude and get to work. But Fridays have actually been pretty miserable for me. On that day, I'm like, God, why am I here?!? It's Friday night...I should be relaxing, having fun, drinking with my friends, anything but here! But by Saturday night, I'm better again, especially knowing it's the last time I have to work there for 4 days, and also, because there's typically not as much stocking done that night. Sunday's just kind of a lazy day. I try to squeeze in time with family and friends that day, but much of it is pissed away since I have to sleep.

Also, based on TV shows I'm currently watching, Monday has the TBS Family Guy marathon, Wed & Thurs have American Idol, and Sunday has Celebrity Apprentice. Tue, Fri, and Sat don't have much to look forward to though.

So, as of right now, from best to worst, it's probably something like this:
1. Wednesday night/Thursday
2. Sunday
3. Wednesday day
4. Monday
5. Tuesday
6. Saturday
7. Friday

In college, Wed night, Thur, Fri, and Sat were all good! Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday were usually not. Sometimes I had a bunch of classes on Thursday, but Thursday night was typically the best night of the week. Thirsty Thursdays! Gotta love a commuter school!

I should hopefully find out if my internship goes full-time tomorrow. If that's the case, my day rankings will probably look something like imaplanner's, but possibly with Friday ahead of Sunday.

1. Friday - elation that the week is over, elation that the weekend has begun, happiness that I get to play soccer.
2. Saturday - elation that I get to sleep in, joy that I have nothing I have to do.
3. Sunday - elation that I get to sleep in, joy that I get to play soccer, dread that I have to head back to work.
4. Thursdays - one more day to the weekend
5. Wednesday - half-way to the weekend
6. Monday - bleck. have to get up and do it all again.
7. Tuesday - ugh. It is only Tuesday. :(

Hey now! Tuesdays are my 3rd favorite. Taco Tuesdays Taco Tuesday Taco Tuesdays!
You can always eat tacos on any other good day. I think we should vote to remove Tuesday and all the bad that goes with it.... (we happen to always have a meeting on Tuesdays as well...)

But Taco Wednesday doesn't have the same ring to it ;)

How about we remove Sunday, which would somehow create an alternative universe where Monday never comes and Saturday goes on forever...

1) Friday - because it's the end of the work week and the one day per week my wife and I go out and imbibe.

Saturdays are okay but I always end up sitting around anyway and when we do plan something it's raining (bitter much)

I am going to rank the days based on a typical two-week period to encompass the weekends that I have and don't have the kids:

1. Saturday (my weekend)

2. Friday (my weekend)
3. Wednesday (2 days before my weekend)
4. Monday (after ex's weekend)
5. Thursday (day before my weekend)
6. Tuesday (3 days before my weekend)
7. Wednesday (after ex's weekend)
8. Thursday (before ex's weekend)
9 Tuesday (after ex's weekend)
10 Monday (after my weekend)

11. Sunday (my weekend but have to drop them off at 7:00 because the goddamn court schedule says so instead of extending my weekend until Monday morning so I can drop the kids off at school. If this were the case Sunday would bump up all the way to to #2.
12. Friday (ex's weekend)
13. Sunday (ex's weekend)
14. Saturday (ex's weekend)

Everything but #1 basically sucks because the ex will see the kids at least part of each of those 13 days, whereas I will only see the kids 5 days maximum during that two-week period and most of those days a very small fraction.

#11 to #14 are strictly bottom of the barrel. The $hittiest time imaginable.

This Bear is usually pretty whipped on Saturday. It ranks #2, though, because the only work that is involved is the work I like to do. :)

Best - Sunday (You know all the reasons.)
Second Best - Saturday
Third Best - Friday (Especially if hitting a bar after work is in the plan. Lately it is not. :()
Position Four - Wednesday (Quite often a day I take for vacation. Breaks up the weekend. And my work schedule includes meetings I actually like.)
Number Five: Tuesday
Number Six: Thursday
Last: Monday

I think I am getting a little better at compartmentalizing and living in the moment. Sunday is not quite the occasion for dread that it once was. Why spend perfectly good time off fretting about something no amount of fretting will alter?
