Recently reflected on the places I've lived over the years. I am no means a redwood tree as I've had my share of moving around unlike one set of my grandparents who lived in the same house for 60+ years. I think previous generations were more apt to live in the same house longer and work at the same place of employment throughout their career. I can see the benefit of living in one place as you grow up and evolve as the community evolves and can always say "I remember so and so was here and we did so and so there..." and similar sentimental memories. However, I did enjoy moving around as I was able to experience a new community and it introduced to my love of physical geography. I now have friends in a few places around the country as well. Thought I'd list all the dates places I deemed to be place of residence. Some of these are returns back home between college years.

I might have everyone on here beat:

Year of move and age

1983 (6)

1985 (8) - new town, everywhere before this was moves within the same very small metro area
1987 (10) - new town
1989 (12) - new town
1995 (18) - left for the Army
1996 (18) - Basic to AIT
1996 (18) - Permanent station in the Army
1996 (18) - 3 month deployment to Panama
1996 (19) - back to permanent station
1998 (20) - back home after the Army
1998 (20) - off to college (first place for the summer before I moved into the dorms)
1998 (21) - moved into the dorms at college
1999 (21) - out of the dorms and into a place off campus
2000 (22) - new apartment with my then gf
2002 (24) - another place off campus
2004 (26) - bought my first house with my 1st wife, longest I ever lived anywhere (7 years!)
2011 (33) - sold first house and moved to Arizona to pursue Masters, lived back in an apt with roommate
2012 (34) - bought 2nd house with then gf (soon to be 2nd and current wife)
2014 (36) - temporarily moved to an apt after selling house and before move to CO
2014 (36) - moved to CO right before daughter was born, lasted a year before we realized this was a mistake and moved back to be closer to family
2015 (37) - back to AZ, temporary apt
2016 (39) - bought another house in AZ
2018 (41) - sold other house and moved into our current one

If I'm not forgetting one that's 30 different places I've lived in my 42 years on this earth in 5 states and 2 countries.

Yeah. I guess I'm not a "rootsy" kind of guy. My wife is much the same way having lived in 4 different states and also having probably 20+ moves under her belt. We're actually contemplating moving again now. Might be soon...
