I honestly don't know anything about the man, but from what i've read on other sites, he served his country well and was a great individual. This is truly sad.

As sick as it may sound, they always say deaths come in 3s. This is my 3rd for this week, I've been holding my breath waiting for the 3rd one.

I didn't much care for his politics, but I always considered him a stand up person. He will be missed as the voice of reasoned liberalism in the Senate. He could have been President some day.

Mummies

I sorta liked his politics, but I agree with the rest of what El Guapo said (oh no!).

Sadly enough, Walter Mondale is coming back from the dead.

Kunstler, in his nasty but inimitable way, phrases it the best: The Democratic Party is being taken over by mummies. We all know the mummies (GRAY Davis, I mean, come on) have ruled California for the last four (although I can't vote for that sleazy Friend Of George for the life of me :)) The Green Party candidate is the typical wacko, so that's out.

God, can I even rustle up the energy to vote this year?

Everything people have said about him is that he was well respected. Of course, people don't usually say bad things about politicians when they die.

Just to be hypothetically contrarian, I submit there is no way ever that Wellstone could have been President. Its nice to say he was a voice of reason EG , but frankly he was way left, socialist left, in arguably the most leftist state in the union.

He was out the mainstream on environmental, defense (see his vote re: Iraq) etc......

Sad? Absolutely. I abhorr tragedies like that.

But his politics made me want to stick a pen in my eye.

The new Dems are wimps, straying from their ideals in an attempt to keep their power base against the perception that the collective political mindset of the United States is making aa turn to the right. As Michael Moore wrote, Clinton was the best Republican president we've ever known.

Since Reagan, Republicans have had nothing to stand united against. After the fall of their nemesis, communism and the Soviet Union, what's left to unite for, or against? The left ... those evil Democrats. The gap left behind by the evil Rooskies also got filled in with the help of some not-so-friendly fundamentalist Christians.

You have to see television here in Florida to believe it. The ads are filled with Republican attack ads; they've got some serious financial backing.
