Ten (or more) reasons the APA doesn't like Cyburbia

1) Cyburbia isn't based in Chicago or Portland.

2) Only one known registered user is FAICP.

3) "I love the APA!" thread died after two one-line posts.

4) Cyburbia promotes slacking among other urban planners, when we could be giving tours to mayors from Heilongjiang Province instead.

5) Republican planners! Republican planners! Run away! Run away!

6) Canadian planners! Canadian planners! Run away! Run away!

7) The abundance of Wisconsin planners intimidate the Hyde Park crowd.

8) The Cyburbia "Answers to the 2004 AICP Examination" guide (only $499.95, sent to SAC, Toledo OH).

[flipv]9) Users from south of the Equator, and their upside-down posts[/flipv]
10) Are Andres Duany or Peter Calthorpe registered Forums users? No? 'Nuff said.

11) APA National doesn't think too highly of the Fetish, Dominance and Submission Division proposed by a certain Cyburbia member.

Cyburbia has members in many sub-cults:
The Volvo Cult
The Bicycle Cult
The "I don't own a TV" Cult
The NRA Cult
The "Please look at 48 Megs of photos of my city in one download" Cult
The "PRIDE" Cult
The "Let's email them" Cult....

No one here secretly wears an ascot or a smoking jacket after 8:00 pm.

We could get by without them just fine.

All memberships and services are FREE - WTF???

Our secret societies don't have the "elephant walk" initiation rites, well, unless that is your thing.

Even the unwashed graduates of midwestern state universities feel they can play in our sandbox.

We try to help people with their questions for FREE - WTF???

All of our publications are FREE - WTF???

1/10 of us didn't learn the word paradigm from our English nanies.

1) We take our job serious but we don't define ourselves by our jobs.

2) We are REAL people who don't use credentials to make us "somebody"

3) Our topics appeal to more than a small select few.

4) We don't pray to Portland 3 times a day.

Cyburbia actually brings planning out of the clouds and onto the streets.

Planners, non-planners, students, and city-lovers all come together here to interact with each other outside of a charette.

We have planner groupies!

Cyburbia shows that planners have a sense of humor, and can even poke fun at themselves sometimes.

We dare to question whether the ideas of Duany, Calthorpe, Florida, and other APA idols are flawed.

To echo El Guapo, "Free?!"

We don't have a Chinese-language web site.

37b) We have planners on here who really don't like the APA, and especially the bogus AICP oath... and don't mind saying so...

You don't get a "Sorry, you are not a member of 'The Clube.' Only registered members of the Clube are allowed to access this portion of Cyburbia" messages when you navigate the site.

We have no subsidies propping up our membership nor lobbyists standing in for our rights. We cyburbanites are FREE! Free from the shackles of nonprofiteering in the land pie sector.

APA has found that the majority of southern planners look to Cyburbia for validation in their rejection of "New Urbanism" as just another half-assed version of urban sprawl.

Because they saw us sharing a soda with AIA and later making out with the ULI in the back seat of our Volvo.
