Ok, it opens in two weeks, and my husband is already getting so excited about it. I'm feeling rather, well, yawn about it - i fell asleep in the first one. So who's going and can someone explain the excitement to me?

I watched some sort of "making of" show the other night on WB, geared me up for it.

Now I am not going to wait on line or anything but its the best fantasy stuff out there.

Cept, I always have problems finding baby sitters so that my wife and I can actually go out.

More likely, I get it on DVD

Seems like a good cable movie.....in other words, I'm willing to wait a year or so to see it.

I'm almost feeling like I'd rather wait until the last one is out and then sit and have a huge marathon, since there is no resolution to ANYTHING at the end of this second movie.

I loved the first movie... I saw it when it first came out. I just rented it on dvd a few weeks ago again, and it was *still* awesome. I have never read the trilogy, so I have no idea how the movies compare... but I'm definitely looking forward to the new movie (especially after a dearth of good movies in the past few months).

Yeah I'm going to go, but I need to rewatch the 1st one first. I bought the DVD and fell asleep in the middle of it, so I need to watch it again.

I read all the books in hihg school. Don't remember much of them though.

We're pre-purchasing our tickets for opening night. I'm in loooove with Viggo Mortensen and after seeing the video game for the Two Towers, I can't help but get excited about it!

I read the Hobbit and the trilogy for the first time when I was about 12 and from then on Middle Earth was like a real place. I have since reread them maybe 5 times. How to explain it? I don't know. Just that I love the story and the characters, it has adventure, good vs. evil, etc. I guess we feel like all the kids when the Harry Potter movies come out, just that we've been waiting so much longer.
And yes, like PG, I was a geeky kid, rather read than anything.

Definitely going to see it. There is so much hype here, there will be a parade through the city with people in full costume, and for a week they change all the city signs from Wellington to 'Middle Earth'. There is huge demand to watch the movie at Peter Jackson's favourite theater, a big old place that I live up the road from.

So, It's just like the first one?

*SIGH*

I went to the first one with a friend that *really* wanted to see it. Midnight show opening night on the UltraMax screen. I read the books, and it was quite true to them. Even the scenes mirrored the illustations in the books to the point that my friend would gasp audibly when he recognized one.

UGG. This is going to be another 3 hours of my life shot to h*ll. isn't it?

UPDATE: Saw that friend last night. Got invited to the "double secret-after-the-theatre-closes-free-preshowing-prior-to-official-release". Turns out be befriended a cinema manager who is breaking the rules. He's psyched about it, I'm ambivalent but attending none the less.

NERD ALERT!

:)

Just kidding, have fun BTurk! I remember going to the movies on opening night of Star Wars. I nearly got trampled by everyone in costumes fighting for seats.

What is Bobofet's symbol? Please tell me its not a pinktriangle. ;)

OT: When I got my first tatoo I almost got the Biohazard logo, but it was more $ than I had on hand, go I got something else. Good thing - I later found out that in gay circles, it is a pride symbol for HIV+ people.

Yeah, but Bobafet is the coolest of the star wars characters, so at least he picked a good one.

Still OT: A step-sister of mine got a Chinese character on her neck and then later found out, from a guy that knew the language well, it meant something along the lines of "hussie"- it's covered up by a large iguanu now. : )
