Vermont barn incentices

When I was working with a community in Maine last year, we had a planner from Vermont come to speak. He said something to the effect that, "Vermont gives farmers money to paint their barns." He went on to say that the reasoning behind that was that if the state wanted these farmers to continue "wow-making" to support tourism and environmental protection that they needed to give them an incentive. I think this is a great idea, and I really hope that it is true.

So many of the communities that I work with could use an example like this.

Does anyone know about this or other types of incentives in other places or know whom I should contact to find out more? Thanks so much!
