How is it that a developer builds all the infrastructure for a 25 lot development without final municipal approval? We all thought it was in the planning stages until the new engineer asked why they needed a preconstruction meeting if the construction was almost complete. :-c
There's someone asleep at the wheel in that municipal enforcement dept.

We call those pre-completion meetings, and document a violation.
I agree with this. Like others have said, somebody wassailed at the wheel on the enforcement side. However, the developer should have known what was required.

We are putting a stop work order on it and we have a meeting scheduled for next week.

Normally I would agree, but I can see how this one would get missed. It is only accessible through a different neighborhood that is older and tucked off in a corner next to a freeway and is not a very big development (about 25 lots). I am surprised that no one called to ask about it or complain about the construction traffic or that other agencies issued approvals. I spoke with the former engineer who dropped the project last year, and he is now thinking about perusing legal action against the developer because it sounds like they used his preliminary plans as a construction set.

There is no question that we would have caught it when they came in for addresses or building permits, but we are furious that it got this far without approvals.

Good that y'all put the stop work order on it. Sounds like it turning into a cluster.

It's hump day and it feels like everyone is waiting for the other shoe to drop. Problem is, I'm not too sure what/when the first shoe drop was, if that makes any sense.

This morning one of the customer service ladies came in our office and said "Come out here and smell this." I did not move. Too scared.

My associate did and as he walked out the door he said "Is this one of those Pull My Finger things?"

Found out today that our brand new, only been here as a full-time employee for 11 days, economic development director lost her collective sh** at a public meeting on Monday, and is now gone.

I don't go to the EDC meetings. However, this might have been a good one to watch.

Popcorn, anyone??

4 weeks ago, I went to my primary care provider to get a referral to a specialist. Today, I sat in the office of that said specialist for over an hour... for them to tell me that I need a CT scan done and that I have to go back in two weeks to talk to the specialist about the results of my scan, and the possibility of surgery, which might happen sometime in April... So I get to deal with an issue for 4 months because of all the run-around I get from the medical corporation.

Did I mention the co-pays and cost of the scan area all out of pocket because I have not hit my deductible yet?

Found out late yesterday that my promised new Planner position has been taken away.

But hey, didn't you say you needed an intern? Why don't you go get an intern in the meanwhile?

Really? An intern at this late stage? Schools are already in session and all the students locally probably already have a position. I'm going to get squat for an applicant pool.

So the intern posting is going up this week, and the posted Planner position has been frozen.

Is it time for a drink yet?:beers:

So, on some available research (now that a couple of papers have posted) perhaps what happened isn't what I was told. I guess she didn't lose herself, rather she lost her job . . .

From our local paper:

One of the staff disagreed with the City Manager and after shutting her down told her “if you want to be removed from your position right now….”. That is inappropriate in any public meeting no matter who you are. Having been an executive manager for the last 20 years, had I done that in public in front of others, I would have been disciplined. This needs to be acted on by the council.

When dancing the person that is moving backwards is at risk of having their toes stepped on. I couldn't imagine a US Senator moving forward so that makes sense. Your next dance partner should be more progressive.;)

This morning I had a doctor stick an illuminate scope and a separate metal tube connected to a vacuum up my nose. If you have never had this happen done, I cannot recommend it. It is not pleasant and despite the numbing spray, you can feel everything because it is all connected in there. If feels much like you would imagine it. Oh, and I have enough going on here that I am going to be working for the rest of the freaking day.

I just fixed up my sign code last year to be all politically correct with the latest court rulings and the state is going to mess with their code again. All they're doing is changing the word political sign to temporary sign. I have to make sure I allow temporary signs as a free for all during election time. Thanks a lot state!

I love these complaints. It's coming from inside your house! Get out!

My jury duty has been changed again. First I was the blue group and had to call in. Before I called in they rescheduled me and put me in the orange group to call in yesterday. I got a call late yesterday, before I called in, that the trial is rescheduled to April and I'm now in the green group. Normally I don't mind because jury duty involves going upstairs for me, but I had a class scheduled in Topeka that day and now I have to see if I can reschedule.

The Hund does really well (like top of the class well) in/during obedience class. The real challenge, however, is getting those behaviors to transfer into real life locations and situations.

We had a contentious issue up for public hearing at our BOS meeting last night. One of the adjoining property owners that opposed the request had sent me a powerpoint with 25 slides prior to the meeting. At dinner before the hearing, the chairman indicated that he didn't want to allow people during the public comment portion of the hearing to use powerpoints since they only had a three to five minute time limit. So I went back to my office and printed off copies of the powerpoint for each of the board members. When the person arrived, I told them the chair didn't want to let them use powerpoints but that I had printed off the slides and each board member had a copy that she could refer them to. (The applicants were allowed to use a powerpoint, and that also upset another speaker that also had a slide he wanted to show and didn't think it was fair.)

The BOS chair called a few minutes ago to tell me the first person had called the ACLU to complain that her rights had been violated. The BOS chair called to let me know a few minutes ago. No one seems worried about it, but it seems like an excessive response especially since the BOS was actually given the information even if it wasn't projected.

We have a property that is seeking approval of a state regulated use where we have just about zero control over the process and the elderly neighbor is very angry that we would allow for such a thing, despite us being very clear that we have almost zero control over it. Today she picked up a copy of our zoning code which took a few minutes because we had to print some recent updates and she kept asking how long it would take because she is too busy to stand around. Finally when I went to give her the code book, she talked to me for another 10 minutes trying to convince me that the City should not allow this use to go there. 8-!:':)wall::wall::wall:

Once again, I explained that if she does not like this use in her back yard, to contact the state representative and encourage them to change the law.

I hate when an attorney's office calls and asks, "Was your February meeting televised?" Wouldn't want to give me any clue why you're looking at the meeting and might want to challenge the code that was passed would you?

Went to the local downtown association office last Thursday. The guy emailed me a bunch of meeting times. Today, I showed up a half hour late to one of them. They have already moved a Friday meeting to Thursdays and also changed the venue.

I have no clue how to use Google calendar and I don't know if I want to learn. I copied and pasted all of it into a blog post draft that shall never be published and updated the info on that one meeting.

When I was a full time mom, I could remember doctor's appointments a year in advance for the entire family. Because of that, I have never, in my life, really used any kind of calendar to track anything. I just kept it all in my head.

But I don't have that kind of memory anymore and the stuff I want to get involved with has a lot more times and places to keep track of than what I am used to. I need some means to track stuff.

Bah, humbug.

This Wednesday tormented me with one nuisance on top of another. The icing on the cake was when a contractor, whom I loathe, addressed me as "kms honey!". He won't do it again, and an engineer who chimed in a similar remark is about to regret the joke.

There is a mother f-ing woodpecker that is terrorizing staff, breaking car mirrors, and killing other bird in air combat like a fighter jet dog fighting with a bi-plane. This thing is mean AF and we are now discussing legal ways to eliminate the threat. :-@

If it damages my truck, all they will find is a pile of feathers.

I am struggling with a special demonstration grant that someone in this office thought was a fantastic idea to apply for. It's way more trouble than it's worth and of course it's eventually going to be my problem to close out. The new federal rep is useless and takes forever to respond. Her in person response to us last week was to just keep calling her....uh no-pick up the phone, answer email, or return the call.

I've re-sent the original email to a state rep multiple times awaiting a response. Started out being polite and continued to be less polite and more blunt each time. On the 10th or 11th re-send (with all the other re-sends showing below) I said "Resending yet again which you won't respond. You have delayed our project because of your lack or refusal to answer our questions. You might want to check who I copied too." I got a response that day.

I am stuck with an engineering contract that I neither need nor want because I prefer to do my own work site inspections. I received a site visit meeting request last night at 6pm for a visit this morning. I text the engineer to see if he can attend, he says he will confirm either way in the morning. This morning he says he can't come, told him I will handle the meeting today as it's a relatively small billing. His boss tells him to ask me to ask the developer to reschedule the meeting.

Nope.

The engineer texts me and says please send his boss an email because he's being a diva. I sent a terse one and got an OK, sorry in response. Watch him try to bill 3 hours. next month.

I spent my lunch period multitasking between personal business and work questions. Then I had a long-winded call from a complainer who is becoming disruptive. I feel totally derailed at this point.

And I had to double check that today is indeed Wednesday.

I've got a Commission meeting tonight; it's going to be a long one; and I seem to be having an allergic reaction to something. I took some meds to help lessen the severity of the reaction but I know they're going to increase my need for sleep.

It is NOT going to be a good night.
